Terms of Service

Last updated: April 10, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using BriefStack ("the Service"), operated at briefstack.io, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service. We may update these terms from time to time; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

2. Description of Service

BriefStack is a regulatory intelligence service that monitors federal and state privacy regulations and delivers summaries, briefs, deadline alerts, and related content to subscribers. The Service is available in free and paid tiers, each with different features as described on our pricing page.

3. Not Legal Advice

BriefStack is an informational service, not a law firm. Nothing provided through the Service constitutes legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created by your use of the Service. The content we deliver is for general informational purposes only. You should consult a qualified attorney for legal advice specific to your business and circumstances.

While we strive for accuracy, we do not guarantee that our coverage of regulatory changes is complete, timely, or error-free. Laws change frequently, and our summaries are simplified interpretations of complex legal text. You should independently verify any information before making compliance decisions.

4. Accounts and Subscriptions

To access certain features of the Service, you must create an account with a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.

Paid subscriptions are billed on a monthly or annual basis as selected at checkout. Prices are listed on our pricing page and may change with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.

5. Free Tier

Free tier subscribers receive a weekly email summary. The free tier may be modified or discontinued at any time. Free tier subscribers may upgrade to a paid tier at any time.

6. Cancellation and Refunds

You may cancel your paid subscription at any time. Upon cancellation, you retain access to paid features through the end of your current billing period. We do not offer prorated refunds for partial billing periods.

If you are on a free trial, you may cancel at any time during the trial period without being charged.

7. API Access

Pro tier subscribers may access the BriefStack API using issued API keys. API keys are confidential and must not be shared publicly or with unauthorized parties. API usage is subject to rate limits (1,000 requests per day, 60 requests per minute). We reserve the right to revoke API access for abuse or excessive usage.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Resell, redistribute, or commercially republish BriefStack content without written permission
  • Use automated systems to scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Service beyond authorized API access
  • Attempt to circumvent access controls, authentication, or rate limits
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Misrepresent BriefStack content as legal advice to third parties

9. Intellectual Property

All content generated and published by BriefStack, including briefs, articles, summaries, and analysis, is owned by BriefStack. Paid subscribers may use content internally for their own business compliance purposes. Public redistribution, republishing, or resale of BriefStack content requires written permission.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BriefStack and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. This includes, without limitation, damages arising from reliance on information provided through the Service, regulatory penalties, compliance failures, or business losses.

Our total liability for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to BriefStack in the twelve months preceding the claim.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any regulatory information will be complete or current.

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these terms, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to access the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including limitations of liability and intellectual property) will survive.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the state in which BriefStack is operated, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration.
